Three Day Lyrical Challenge – ‘When We Were Young’ Song 3 Day 3

This has been so exciting and new. I’ve had a good time doing this challenge, thank you again Happymess Happiness for the nomination.

If there’s something I’ve experienced is that music can move you to the core, a song will take you places – a specific place, a song will bring a tear to your eyes, tears of sadness or joy, but it’ll bring you a memory, a song will take you to a particular time, an hour, a minute in time, even make you feel a little melancholy. I also think unconsciously we also put on a song, sad or upbeat, all based on how we feel on the inside.

The Rules Are Simple:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
  3. Nominate three other bloggers each day.

The Song/Lyrics I Want To Share With You Today Is:

I couldn’t leave the ‘Three Day Lyrical Challenge’ without including Adele. She carries a special place in my ‘musical’ heart. These are the rare artists that sing and your heart is moved, because the mind goes to a place it seldom goes. And to me, this song When We Were Young from Adele, does just that. Enjoy.

Adele – ‘When We Were Young’

[Verse 1]
Everybody loves the things you do
From the way you talk to the way you move
Everybody here is watching you
Cause you feel like home, you’re like a dream come true
But if by chance you’re here alone
Can I have a moment before I go?
Cause I’ve been by myself all night long
Hoping you’re someone I used to know

[Pre-Chorus]
You look like a movie
You sound like a song
My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young

[Chorus]
Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time that we might
Be exactly like we were before we realised
We were sad of getting old, it made us restless
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song

[Verse 2]
I was so scared to face my fears
Nobody told me that you’d be here
And I swear you’d moved overseas
That’s what you said when you left me

[Pre-Chorus]
You still look like a movie
You still sound like a song
My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young

[Chorus]
Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time that we might
Be exactly like we were before we realised
We were sad of getting old, it made us restless
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song

[Refrain]
(When we were young)
(When we were young)
(When we were young)
(When we were young)

[Bridge]
It’s hard to admit that everything just takes me back
To when you were there, to when you were there
And a part of me keeps holding on just in case it hasn’t gone
Cause I still care, do you still care?

  1. You picked 3 amazing songs, Ana! Love Adele and the words to this song are so meaningful to me. I just read through other comments and saw that you weren’t feeling well? How are you now? Are you feeling okay? Sending you healing thoughts and my prayers. Keep us posted, please.

    1. Thank you! Ugh, don’t know what’s going on. I know I have nerve damage from my first surgery back in 2013. But the numbness is flaring up, I have it on my left side, on my tongue especially. I happened to bring it up to my ENT since we’re getting ready to schedule surgery to remove my thyroid and he said that needs to be checked as it can cause all kinds of problems. So, he helped speed the process by scheduling MRI for my Neurologist. I won’t get worked up, Chiari is so complex, the symptoms vary, things can come up over time, eek! Thank you so much for asking, means a lot! ☺️

I was reading a joke online and it said, ‘I don’t get sick, but when I do, I get sh$t no one has heard of’

Haha! Brighten my night a bit. 😊

      1. Love seeing you in good spirit. Let’s hope it’s some weird thing that comes and goes on its own. Glad that the MRI scheduling process is under way since that can take time too. Crossing my fingers and toes for you, my dear.

  2. Adele. There are no words to describe the power in her voice, the emotions in her singing! Every time I listen to Adele which is everyday I get goosepimples! And this song has some bitter sweet memories associated with it.

    1. YES! I’m so glad you enjoy her singing as much as I do. It’s a bit of many things. the emotion, the intensity, the passion that is delivered in every word she says. There are few artists that will do this, that will take you to places, only with their singing.

Likewise, her lyrics in her songs is so raw. And in this particular one, I think we all can relate to a moment that perhaps turned out to be what we didn’t quite hope. 🙏🏽😌 A lovely song.

      1. Exactly! There is not one song of hers that I do not like. Every song she sings she weaves magic, transporting you through an emotional rollercoaster.

      2. I love that! So beautifully said! I just finished listening to Celine Dion singing ‘Open Arms’ – originally sang by Journey. Gets me every time! She’s another brilliant singer! Love Love her 😊

      3. This is coincidental! I have been listening to ‘A New Day Has Come’ on my way to work. Celine Dion is brilliant. It’s a wonder how they find a permanent place inside our hearts.

      4. Haha! Great taste in music my friend! Amazing women with even more amazing vocals. Yes, they’ve unpacked their bags and have cozied up in my heart. And I’m ok with that 😆😊 Have a good work day!

    1. Oh Wendi! No worries friend. I know that far too well. I almost went to the ER last night. I have to schedule thyroid surgery. But I’m having nerve issues on my tongue. I now have to do an MRI next month and visit my neurologist for this. My tongues going numb, it’s hurting my left side of my face and it’s getting difficult to swallow.
