Being Thankful

I was listening just recently to an actress being interviewed, she was talking about her life struggles and all the difficulties she’s had to endure. At a young age, her mother had a life altering car accident, her mother hit the windshield causing neurological trauma, changing her families lives forever. Ultimately due to the accident and her mother’s condition, the children had to be taken away, her two sisters were sent to one home, her two brothers to another home and she was placed in foster care for a few days – she was 13 years old. She talks about one of the people that inspired her, her social worker and getting to the tenth grade and not knowing how to read. This is just a small snippet of her life, of her mother and of her childhood. Her name is Tiffany Haddish, a comedian and actress. Image result for we all have issues quotesThis interview was phenomenal. And I say this because often times I think that my life is the only one that’s complicated, rough, bad and too difficult to handle sometimes – to even understand. And then I listen to testimonies like these that remind me, that I’m not alone. I’m not the only one with problems, with issues.

We all have a past, we all have and/or still going through things that are going to test us to the core of our faith, perhaps a diagnosis, a separation or job loss. Faith? Yes, that what seems unattainable but very possible. It helps us rise in times when we just don’t see hope, when we don’t see light because all we feel is pain. Hope? Yes, that’s when we begin to desire to get through the bad because we realize that the light is brighter than the darkness.

The thing that allows me to connect with people is when I see past what my eyes see and I listen to their life’s journey. I see that we’re all different, we come from all walks of life and born from all parts of the map. Yet, there’s one thing that connects me with you, the fact that you and I have been through difficulties in our lifetime. In some cases, the difficulties are bigger while others are minor, but they’re life altering nonetheless. Yet aside from all that, we realize that we’re trying to be the best version of ourselves and living the best life that we can – a connection like no other.

I’ve realized that embracing where I am today, is accepting my journey. The difficulties I’ve had to face has brought me to this day – where I am today – I will be thankful for today.

  1. No matter how bad things are, someone is always going through much worse. Our experiences and trials mold us into stronger individuals. The Apostle Paul stated, “Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you meet with various trials, knowing as you do that this tested quality of your faith produces endurance. But let endurance complete its work, so that you may be complete and sound in all respects, not lacking in anything.” (James 1:2-4) Going through trials is never fun, but once we’ve gotten through it we learn just how powerful we can be with God’s help.

  2. ‘And I say this because often times I think that my life is the only one that’s complicated, rough, bad and too difficult to handle sometimes – to even understand. And then I listen to testimonies like these that remind me, that I’m not alone. I’m not the only one with problems, with issues.’ I keeping telling that to me. I cry inside an air conditioned room, pitying myself, my life and then I stare out of the glass and look at the ones who do not have a ceiling above their heads. So I count my blessings rather!

  3. Great post and so true. We all go through struggles and I can always find someone close to me who is going through something worse. Sometimes it’s hard to be thankful in the moment, but I think we all get there. 😊. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Yes, I agree Debbie. Unfortunately yes, we can always someone that’s going through a more difficult time. Fortunately for us, if we choose, we can see them and feel grateful for own struggles.
We can, yes, we can get there! So glad you enjoyed the read, thank you! 😊🙏🏽

  4. This is true and inspiring! Thank you! We should be happy with our lives… we do live just once so why not make the best of it? Enjoy the moments God gives us, and if we are not then pray and get back on track, so that we can live happily and help others do the same! You are amazing!!

    1. Yes, be content, make the best of your own unique situation. It’s not the best, it’s not what we want, but if we can’t change things, then make the best of it. I have a son with autism, and although the diagnosis was heartbreaking, he’s a wonderful and smart boy. And no diagnosis will ever change that. Yes, we underestimate the power of prayer, pray for strength and patience to accept things we can not change. 😊🙏🏽 Thank you Christy for your comment, loved it. You are too!

  5. Lovely post dear, & like you said; we have to embrace our journey & be thankful for where we are now. We often don’t know how thankful we should be, until we’ve listened to others suffering & hurts.

Tiffany Haddish, I love her & she’s so full of life. And funny enough, its the hardship that we go through in life that helps shape us to becoming great icons.

    Thanks for sharing this post

    1. Yes, I agree! And yes, she’s so full of life. And I think that comes also from being there, in a place in your life where you’ve come to terms with the past and are now living in the present as best as you possibly can. I enjoyed listening to her past. Often times getting to know someone in a deeper level, helps us appreciate them more and understand their behaviors.

      1. Trusted individuals, therapist = good! Pr 1.5 “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.” Pr 12.15 “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.”
